WORTHINGTON — Nobles Cooperative Electric is thrilled to announce the 2024 Youth Tour Contest Winner.
Vince VanderKooi, a senior at Worthington High School, was chosen to represent Nobles Cooperative Electric at the 2024 Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., from June 18-23. The son of Worthington residents Joe and Rita VanderKooi, he will join 1,900 high school students from cooperatives nationwide.
Additionally, Jocelyn Horn, a junior at Adrian High School and daughter of Dan and Monica Horn, Adrian, was awarded a $500 scholarship. Isabel Thier, a freshman at Ellsworth High School and daughter of Dave and Ann Thier of Rushmore, received $150.
The Youth Tour is open to high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors residing in or attending school in Nobles Cooperative Electric’s service area. Students submitted an application and essay. A panel of three judges evaluated the applications and essays, interviewed the finalists, and selected the winner for the trip.
The Youth Tour offers for many their first trip to Washington, D.C., where they witness the nation’s history firsthand.
CEO/General Manager Adam Tromblay described the tour as a “trip of a lifetime,” providing an exceptional opportunity to explore the heart of the nation’s government, collaborate with cooperative leaders nationwide, and enhance leadership skills.
The Youth Tour offers a comprehensive itinerary that includes meetings with national leaders and visits to prominent landmarks. It also facilitates discussions with students from other states, encouraging learning about government, history, public service careers and electric cooperatives.
